Built by a player who couldn't find his instrument.
Tom Wolansky had played guitar for years without finding one that truly resonated with him. So in 2011 he started making his own, in Alberta, inspired by the Canadian landscape around him.
Quietly became Canada's ukulele and Weissenborn specialists.
From those first builds, Twisted Wood grew into the leading name for ukuleles and Weissenborn-style guitars in Canada. Today our instruments ship and get played around the world, and we meet new musicians every day.
Design and our custom shop live in Sturgeon County, just north of Edmonton. The range runs from the Tyro, a first ukulele that won't hold you back, to all-solid koa and hollow-neck slide guitars made for the stage.
What goes into every instrument
We rethink details players feel every day, like the pin-style bridges on some ukes that make restringing far easier than a tie-block.
Bone nuts and saddles, geared tuners and Aquila strings come standard, so even a starter uke stays in tune and rings true.
Reforestation and carbon offsetting restore wildlife habitat, clean soil, waterways and shorelines, and sequester carbon.
