All of our instruments are designed, tested and inspected in Canada by our experienced builders. The majority of our models are constructed to our exact specifications in China. Once they’ve been built, every single instrument is sent back to our Canadian workshop where they undergo a rigorous inspection and testing process. Any of our custom shop are made right here in St.Albert, AB Canada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The four main sizes of ukuleles are soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone. Each size has an impact on both the sound and the playability of the ukulele. The soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles are actually all tuned to the same notes- GCEA.<\/p>\n

Only the Baritone is tuned to the lower pitch of DGBE.
\nThe main difference between these ukuleles is in the tonal character and scale length of the instrument. The larger ukuleles have a deeper, fuller, and louder tone. The smaller ukuleles have a brighter, more traditional sound.<\/p>\n

This depends on a variety of factors- including skill level and hand-size. Because soprano ukuleles are inexpensive, lightweight, and have the tightest fret spacing- they are often recommended for beginners or younger players with smaller hands.<\/p>\n

Conversely, Tenor ukuleles offer a less forgiving but highly rewarding experience- as the additional weight and fret spacing allows for the use of advanced techniques such as fingerpicking.<\/p>\n

The concert ukulele sits between the soprano and the tenor sizes, and the baritone offers a more guitar-like tone. It\u2019s common for high-end instruments to be made with cuts of solid wood, while less expensive models are built with laminate wood.<\/p>\n

Laminate is made from pressing multiple layers of wood together with an adhesive. While cost is certainly a contributing factor to the use of laminate or solid wood, both constructions have their benefits.<\/p>\n

In general, solid wood instruments are capable of greater projection and sustain, and have a more characterful tone.
